Sometimes, they would pretend that
they were somebody else. It was okay
to do whatever they wanted to do in the meadow.
Days and nights passed and pretty soon
Timmy and Mary grew up. They didn’t play
with the big, shaggy dog as much
and besides that, he seemed to sleep more anyway.
They didn’t have time to visit the meadow
anymore either. They were so busy that they
forgot all about touching their rainbow.
There were so many important things
to be done. Timmy and Mary became
very responsible and everybody was so proud
of them. Their mother and father would say
to their friends, “My son does this and
my daughter does that! We are so proud of them!”
And, Timmy and Mary were glad.
Days and nights passes and pretty soon
Tim and Mary grew old. They had become
very successful for they had worked hard
for many years. Others envied them for
they had everything. Fame and fortune
belonged to them and all was well…..
until one day.
It started out a bright, beautiful, sunny day.
The trees were so green, the sky so blue,
the air was fresh and clean.
Then, softly, the rain began to fall. It was
a gentle rain, and for whatever reason,
the sun refused to hide behind a cloud.
Tim and Mary, in their big offices now,
looked out their windows and at precisely
the same moment saw the rainbow.
They smiled but didn’t know why.
A vague feeling swept over them.
It was a peaceful feeling. It was
a feeling they didn’t have much anymore.
